Why We Do What We Do – Susan

The Heart Behind Our Work

At Silver Linings Transitions, we’re welcomed into some of life’s most personal and meaningful moments. We witness the challenges, the memories, the difficult decisions, and ultimately, the relief that comes when someone realizes they don’t have to navigate it alone.

These experiences stay with us long after the last box is unpacked.

We asked each member of our team to share what this work means to them and reflect on a client or moment that has left a lasting impression.

Here’s Susan’s story.

Read below to discover why this work is so much more than organizing or moving—it’s about helping people move forward with dignity, compassion, and hope.

In Susan's Own Words ✨

“Jamie gave me the opportunity to work for SLT in 2017. I’ve been working on and off since then and it’s hard to believe it’s been so long! I’m still friends with many of the employees I met way back then. Most of us were stay at home moms looking for flexible work. It was great being able to contribute financially but still drop off and pick up kids from school. We all got to use our “mom talents” – organizing, decorating, purging unnecessary items, etc. Plus, we all have patient, nurturing personalities, aside from problem solving and resourcefulness—perfect for moving seniors! We all have a camaraderie and enjoy one another. It’s not often you can go to work to see your friends!

I’ve met so many wonderful, interesting seniors as well. We’re not just a moving company. Clients share their lives with us when moving. Stories, souvenirs, trinkets, artwork…We get to stand by their side and encourage them in this transition to the next phase of life. I consider it an honor and feel lucky I got to be such a help to someone at an often difficult time.

I’m getting older, no school pickup anymore, and I’m moving on to be a therapist, but I’ll always be thankful for my time working for SLT.”
